Cliffs notes: About 1.25 years ago nixit and I drive to Dallas together to drop off my Z (see build up begins in my sig). Today we are heading back to DFW, still in my car (although it is a much different car now) but this time the objective is ZCON. Here is the picture I took before I sarted writing this stupid post:
Note nixit's bling and the time. We left STL (IL side) around 6:30pm today. The full on ugly thing: Yesterday morning, early I get back in to STL after a busy weekend on the road for work (friday-monday 20 hrs per day - ave). Sleep for about 3 hours and who arrives at my door but teh nixit, with the TT Joop rumbling away in the driveway. He checks out the new digs then we shoot over to the custom shop doing my accident repair/new paint job ( speed and sound in STL - great people). The shop originally told me they could have my car together by the weekend before memorial day weekend in plenty of time to make Zcon. So, Tuesday morning nixit drives me over to the shop to drop me off so I could help the guys there get it all together and take it home Tuesday night and get some sleep pack up and pick nixit up wednesday morning to allow us to get to dallas at a decent time wednesday (today). That WAS the plan. Unfortunatly due to some parts delievery issues (that I was in charge of - no fault of the shop) the car was not as far along as we thought it was going to be. Here is how she looked when we arrived:
. All the panels and the chassis were painted in the booth behind the car seperatly.<p><img src=) view from the rear. All the glass was taken out of the car too so there would be no visible tape line Nixit actually resized his (but he didnt upload them from the car either so cut me some slack):

It was not long after we arrived that tt.net username mpbond (Mark), who does most of the 300ZX work showed up. He gave nixit a tour of the shop and his best friend doodoo (charlie) came over in his RB26 300ZX. Those two put plenty of hours into figuring out how to do this swap. It seems they mastered it as it is nixit approved. Here is a shot nixt snached of the engine bay: NIXIT APPOVED - enthusiatically! (I'm tired and we are in the car my spleeing is going to suck)
Some whacked out boat they had out back that they do work on too.
So while the guys were busy finishing with the painting, I noticed the doors were apart and took the oppurtunity to install my speakers that have been sitting around too long.

Speakers are installed and mounted sunken into the 3/4" birch wood (thanks to MBond's router skillz). So then the glass guy came over to drop my hatch and windshield in. The hatch install went fine, but when lowering the windshield into place it shattered out of knowwhere (I was watching). It was exactly 4:55 too. No way to get a new windshield that day. Plans are effed. The glass guy orders a new windshiled overnighted from Kansas city to be installed the next morning. So I can leave from there. As it turns out we still have alot to do on the car anyway. I decide to stay there and work on the car through the night. DooDoo (charlie - owner of the RB26 Z) calls around 10:30 after he gets off work to find out if we need help. We do and he comes over. The hours strech on and I tell Charlie I can no longer go on anymore sometime after 4 and colapse onto this:
Never knew a creaper could feel so good. I got 2 hours of quality sleep on that bad buy and at 7am I hear a knocking hte door. Charlie tells me he he went home to gab a shower at 6am and he is back and read to get back at it until he has to leave for work around noon. I get up turn around and see this:
While I was sleeping they put the hood on and I was blown away by the difference. Charlie likes it too as you can see! Around 9 or the the glass guy shows up with the new glass and puts it in. MPBond show up shortly there after to help button up the last few items. At noon charlie leaves for 8 hours of work after which he will finally sleep (what a machine!). At around 3:30 I leave Speed and Sound get home in time to eat a bowl of ceral, shower and pack. Throw my suitcase in the car and pick up nixit. We leave nixits place at 6:30 pm and around 8 he decides he should probably drive as I look pretty tired. Then as I power up the laptop to check my email before dozing off he recommends i take a picture of his watch and make a quick post to tt.net. He should have known better.... Its now about 10pm and we are passing through springfield, MO on I 44. Look out Dallas we should be there around 6am, only about 10 hours behind schedule. Not too bad by my standards. The only thing the shop didnt have time to do was mount and install my Kaminari side skirts and door fillers the way I wanted because it would have required such major modification to the parts that were not in the schedule for leaving today. We'll see you guys at Zcon! I'm going to sleep. Wish nixit good luck driving while I snore. P.S. Since the rear and front glass are freshly installed we can't travel with the windows down and AC master aliaz didn't have time to recharge my A/C system last time I was at his place. Hopefully we can do that tomorrow night. Its hot in HERRRRRR!
